This is actually a documentary of the entire Italian campaign including the battle of Monte Cassino. Due to the broader subject matter, it does not (and cannot) hide this sinister battle in the depth that I had been hoping for. It should be named, “The Italian Campaign”. Otherwise, a decent documentary.

This was Arrangement too Scary for limited kids! The movie is about each Bratz telling a very scary narrative at a sleepover. It is deceptively packaged like it’s about young kids and their fun first sleepover adventures, and isn’t obvious that this is all about being Tremulous. Adult scary. My 4 year former who loved the other Bratz movies, HATES this movie & even told me to throw it away after she saw it. She conception this movie would be expansive since it was about “Baby Bratz.” She adores Scooby Doo, so there is a substantial incompatibility in this movie.) She has never said that about anything else. Honest what we needed, unique hideous thoughts - your image in the mirror pulling you in and trapping you, etc. It may be blooming for older kids who don’t have any alarm issues, but if you have any distress with your shrimp ones fears, particularly if they are starting to sleep alone, pick up vexed at night or have apprehension about their first sleepover, please remove something else! It may have a apt somewhere, but they are so alarmed, they’ll never figure it out! What were they thinking?

BEWARE! This is packaged as a fun minute girly girl sleepover and it is a MONSTER Fable. The girls turn into monsters and it is friendly for night mares. Moms, you might wanna preview before you let kids perceive this one.

It’s easy to gain blown away in the first few minutes of “Origin: Spirits of the Past,” where we’re treated to exquisitely creepy celestial visuals and a aesthetic theme song.

It’s also a helpful lead-in for this beautifully inspiring movie about a not-so-distant future in which human civilization lies in dystopic ruins, and a gigantic sentient forest has taken control. The animation is stunningly lush and complex, and the lone-hero rescuer myth is surprisingly keen… and it almost makes up for the fact that the eco-friendly station makes absolutely no logical sense.

When a young boy named Agito stumbles on an underground chamber, he finds a girl cryogenically preserved for the past three hundred years. Toola is understandably upset by this — and since she has an electronic neck design, her presence angers the Forest, who dismay that she might be passe by the militaristic land of Ragna. Of course, the Ragnan leader Shunack — another survivor from three hundred years ago — turns up to persuade her.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Origin: Spirits of the Past! Click Here

It turns out that Shunack wants to exhaust E.S.T.O.C., a mysterious plan that will return the world to the plan it once was, and Toola rather understandably decides to aid him. Agito’s only hope for stopping them — and keeping the forest reliable — is to undergo “enhancement” that genetically bonds him to the Forest’s trees. But even that might not end the might of Ragna’s armies… and stuff, especially since Shunack is also “enhanced.”

“Origin: Spirits of the Past” is a graceful film — the animation is lushly-drawn and plump of ruined buildings, vines, radiant glades, vast writhing vines and grand fascinating mountains plump of weapons. Some of the more chilling images (such as Agito’s dad slowly turning into a tree, or the seeming loss of Toola in a burning yell) are exquisitely haunting, all the more so because they aren’t played for terror. It is, simply assign, a glorious fragment of work.

It also comes up with an absorbing and slightly eerie notion for a sci-fi movie — that plants engineered to withstand extraterrestrial life would mutate and become the dominant force on Earth, changing themselves even as they become integrated by humanity. The ruinous dystopia that results is both graceful and disturbing.

The plight is, the space makes no sense: presumably the whole living-in-harmony-with-Forest thing is symbolic of living in harmony with nature. But since the Forest was mutated by humans, wrecked the world, genetically altered the survivors and keeps civilization in a stagnant stranglehold, it’s about as unnatural as you can bag. And the alleged abominable guys objective want to switch the world assist to its pre-mutant-plant spot when man and nature were in balance… meaning that the Designated Anti-Nature Terrible Guy is actually the Pro-Nature Satisfactory Guy.

Evidently, logic need not apply. Even director Keiichi Sugiyama belatedly seems to realize this, so he throws a rather random “villains will ruin a town” twist into the mix to the awful guy will really seem, y’know, dreadful. It doesn’t quite work.

Additionally, Toola and Shunack are the most likable characters in the mix — Toola is understandably poor and freaked by the loss of the world she once knew, and the people with it. And while Shunack has made his residence in this remade world and gotten a area of power, he’s wracked by guilt over his allotment in the Forest’s rise. Agito is a edifying miniature hero who goes to outrageous lengths, but he seems rather bland by comparison.

“Origin: Spirits of the Past” is a stunning part of animation with a hauntingly sober backdrop, but the true dwelling about the Forest makes no sense at all. Savor for the copious view candy, but don’t question deep stuff here.

One of the most powerful feats of World War II happened in Denmark. After about three years of believing they could live in peace with the Germans, the Jews were finally scheduled to be shipped to the death camps. Fortunately, a trusted Dane working in the German’s Assure learned of the conception a day or two before it was to happen, so he secretly warned the Jews. Within a matter of hours, the Danish Resistance attend pick up some 7,200 Jews on boats and taken to Sweden. Being neutral, Sweden willingly took in these Jewish refugees. Fewer than four hundred did not flee, but were shipped out of Denmark to the camps. This is the compelling, factual epic of one family in that ‘miracle at midnight.’ The Disney movie of that name is a similar epic, which chronicles another family experience during that same incident.

There is so considerable to discuss in this movie that parents will honest want to spy it with their kids to choose what would be vital to their family. There is very petite awful language, or anything objectionable to used values families in this movie. It is one you will not soon forget. Oh, one more thing: When the Jews were finally able to return to Denmark after the war, they found their businesses had been kept going, their homes maintained, and even their gardens attended by the Danes!

This is an good movie, and I also consider it was one of the best World War 2 movies I have ever seen. Seeing people being dauntless in the face of panic in sincere life is one of the most great things I deem any movie could be about. The relationships formed were very touching as well. I will recommend this to any and all I perceive, and as proof of how qualified I deem it is, I have never desired to write a review of any movie before this one.

I had never really idea of The Wolf Man as being in the same league as Dracula and Frankenstein’s Monster - I was detestable. Watching Lon Chaney, Jr.’s portrayal of Larry Talbot in The Wolf Man and Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man has opened my eyes. Chaney’s Wolf Man is by far the most sympathetic of Universal’s three major monsters. Dracula loves being Dracula, Frankenstein’s monster is a full-time monster made out of dubious body parts, yet Larry Talbot is a victim of cruel fate. Rushing in to aid a damsel in pain, he sustains a bite from a werewolf - hardly the type of reward a hero deserves. Doing the things a werewolf does is poor enough, but Talbot knows he is a werewolf and has to use all of his normal waking hours wallowing in mental agony, intellectual he can do nothing to absorb the hairy monster lurking within. Beginning with his resurrection in Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man, Talbot’s overriding ambition and sole wish is to die and be freed from the curse forever, yet he now knows he can never die- not by frail means, anyway. He truly is a lost soul trapped in a nightmare from which there seems to be no run. This was the role Chaney was born to play, and he delivered one astounding performance after another in his five werewolf films. The Wolf Man Legacy Collection contains only two of them, the recent The Wolf Man from 1941 and the sequel/monster crossover film Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man (1942) . Chaney’s Wolf Man also appears in House of Frankenstein and House of Dracula, each of which can be found on the Frankenstein and Dracula Legacy Collections, respectively.

The Wolf Man has exerted a tremendous influence on the art of anxiety for over six decades now, thanks to the heralded make-up prowess of Jack Pierce, the tight and distinguished script of Curt Siodmak, some impressive photography work, a arresting musical secure, and amazing performances from a truly stellar cast of actors and actresses (including Claude Raines in the role of Larry Talbot’s father, Maria Ouspenskava as the gypsy woman and surrogate mother figure to Larry, and the vast Bela Lugosi in a somewhat minor yet crucial role) . Chaney’s Wolf Man appearance is amazingly incandescent and, one supposes, somewhat hideous to moviegoers of the early 1940s. His emotional performance adds to his character’s tragic status; his outlandish and slightly awkward manner, tempered by a sort of gentle slowness always leaves me mesmerized.

With the success of The Wolf Man in 1941, it didn’t seize Universal long to wobble out a sequel; the following year, Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man not only capitalized on the success of everybody’s popular werewolf, it also brought in Frankenstein’s monster, thus becoming one of the first Universal monster cross-over films. Lon Chaney, Jr., returns as the ill-fated Larry Talbot, and the legendary Bela Lugosi dons the makeup of the Frankenstein monster - this fact alone makes the film spicy. Talbot, now paralyzed he cannot die, longs to be killed and keep out of his misery. He ends up at the castle of Frankenstein, where a splendid young doctor promises to serve him and waste Frankenstein’s monster in the process - things don’t quite work out that map, and the film ends with a monster grudge match between the Wolf Man and Frankenstein’s Monster.

Werewolf of London (1935) and She-Wolf of London (1946) could not be more different, and both are unmistakably positive from the Universal werewolf films starring Lon Chaney, Jr., yet I contemplate they both work marvelously. Many fans don’t care for them, especially She-Wolf in London, but I win both films quite compelling. They differ significantly from the storyline running through Chaney’s Wolf Man films, but these two films have a stout deal of their enjoy to offer fans. Often overlooked and unduly dismissed by some reviewers and dread fans, these are two classic werewolf films.

In terms of extras, you acquire trailers for three of the four films, a truly helpful commentary of The Wolf Man by film historian Tom Weaver, a well-made 1999 documentary called Monster By Moonlight, and comments on the Wolf Man character by Van Helsing director Stephen Sommers. With only four movies and relatively few extras, The Wolf Man Legacy Collection falls a small short in the value department compared to the Dracula and Frankenstein Legacy Collection sets, but nothing can change the fact that this is must-have material for fans of classic panic movies.

What famed anxiety classic, panned by reviewers upon its initial release in December of 1941, looks better and better every year? THE WOLF MAN, starring Claude Rains, Ralph Bellamy, Evelyn Ankers, and Lon Chaney Jr. as the hapless Larry Talbot.

The chronicle is a familiar one: Larry, the son of esteemed Sir John (Rains) returns home to Wales after many years in America, is bitten by a werewolf (well played by Bela Lugosi), and becomes a werewolf himself. What’s astonishing is the fact that the film can be so effective today.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Wolf Man - The Legacy Collection! Click Here

The biggest reason for this is the acting. Some classic films, pre-Actor’s Studio, eye exquisite pathetic when it comes to realistic characterization. Not so THE WOLF MAN. Curt Siodmak’s satisfactory screenplay (likened to a Greek Tragedy) provides a vehicle for the stars to be at their best, and, boy, do they shine: Rains a tower of strength as the proud father; Ankers hitting fair the moral effect as the torn female lead; Maria Ouspenskaya as the Used Gypsey Woman whose words prefigure Larry’s doom….

But the standout is Lon Chaney Jr. A positive mixed-bag as an actor, he is perfect here–and this is a role calling for the spend of all human emotions (unlike later Wolf Man films, where Talbot’s head-pounding becomes expressionless) . In fact, seeing THE WOLF MAN recently has convinced me that Chaney would have made the ideal hide Phillip Marlow (and I’m not forgetting Bogie) –big, tough, surly, yet charming when need be (a highlight early in WOLF MAN is Larry’s attempts at flirting with Ankers; Chaney does the surprisingly prankish dialogue with impartial the suitable touch) . There’s no doubt that his performance would merit accolades even today.

This is not to say that there aren’t problems in the film. The continuity is off in a number of places (Chany transforms into the Wolf Man at one point wearing a sleeveless undershirt; in the very next scene, he’s wearing a neatly buttoned Dickey), and there’s a scene or two that’s completely inexplicable (e.g., why DOES the Wolf Man pass out when caught in that trap? ) ….

But overall, the coast, lighting, cinematography, advantageous musical secure, and strong memoir propel the film through these rough spots, the 70-minute amble leaving the viewer wanting more. For these reasons, THE WOLF MAN is a classic….and a DVD worth buying (the extra werewolf films, particularly FRANKENSTEIN MEETS THE WOLF MAN, are spirited as well) .

After the first Chaplin Collection, I expected a terrific second place, but this far surpassed my expectations. My sole inconvenience for the region as announced was that all the First National shorts would not be included, and that only the three which Chaplin compiled into the feature, THE CHAPLIN REVUE, would be display. But lo and peer, THE CHAPLIN REVUE is now a two-disc space which includes the four additional First Nationals! Suitable, the other three are presented in Chaplin’s 1959 compilation format, but composed, it’s all here. CITY LIGHTS, THE KID, and THE CIRCUS are all given two-disc presentations with tons of extras, while MONSIEUR VERDOUX, A WOMAN OF PARIS, and A KING IN Fresh YORK receive one disc apiece, in which there are smooth some dandy bonus features. Add to the pot a widescreen version of the over two hours long CHARLIE, Richard Schickel’s unique and acclaimed documentary, and you’ve got an incredible wealth of Chaplin material that will preserve enthusiasts busy for weeks. The visual and audio quality is attractive, and the packaging quite heavenly. When you divide the cost of the region by these twelve well-packed discs, it seems a financial pittance for a fortune’s worth of Chaplin. I could have paid three times the amount for this material and not felt cheated. Unconditionally recommended.

The Good: I’m not a complete Chaplin aficionado but I have if you grasp up this DVD plot and the first Chaplin DVD collection, you’ll have all his films with the exception of his early Essanay and Mutual films and his 1967 film “A Countess From Hong Kong” which Chaplin directed and features a brief cameo. Besides the films themselves, this location contains photo galleries, trailers, brief documentaries, deleted scenes, some brief but captivating introductions by Chaplin biographer David Robinson, and other related materials - all of them presented in pristine, and in most cases delicate, condition by restoration artists MK2.

The Bad: Chaplin re-released many of these films in the ’60s and ’70s and the Chaplin family obviously considers these as the final word since they’ve included them here. I’m assuming this is a friendly thing because it would allow MK2 to work from newer prints rather than the archaic film masters from the ’20s and ’30s. Unfortunately, Chaplin also added recent music in many cases and made some minor scene deletions. I haven’t seen the earliest versions to be able to compare musical scores. And the scores feeble here worked handsome for me. Quiet, it would’ve been nice if they included the recent film instead of tacking the brief deleted scenes on separately. This was done perfectly with “The Gold Race” region in the first Chaplin DVD collection which includes the current film and the reworked current version with Chaplin’s narration. There are several spelling mistakes on the packaging of “The Kid” - the title has dropped out somewhere along the line in its production - an error which should’ve been caught, considering all the care they’ve keep into this package. There are also some isolated spelling mistakes in the title cards during “The Chaplin Revue” shorts they could’ve easily caught. The “Woman” disc lists that it includes movie posters on the box’s contents - however, they’ve forgot to include them here. The box is also rather flimsy paperboard. I recently bought the Monty Python boxed region which comes in a hard cardboard box. This is another minor point but it would’ve been nice to pick up a solid housing considering the cost of this space and care place into the materials. In addition, the FBI warnings on all the movies and documentaries appear for about five minutes in several languages - which is fair - but unfortunately, you can’t snappy forward through any of them. The only thing you can do is terminate the DVD and reboot to rep help to the main menu or wait the warnings out until the menu comes abet. This effort could’ve been corrected as well.

The Ugly: In their haste to build this thing out, possibly to coincide with the original Jeffrey Vance coffee table book “Chaplin - Genius of the Cinema,” they’ve made a few glaring errors. In the case of the A King in Unusual York / A Woman of Paris two disc plot, both discs work properly - but they’ve been mislabelled. (Disc One is actually Disc Two and vice versa.) I purchased this dwelling in Canada at HMV so this is not strictly an assure with the sets Amazon are selling. What’s worse is they’ve also made the same mistake with “The Chaplin Revue” two disc state. Again, both discs play attractive but are mislabelled. These sloppy errors will probably be corrected in future print runs. But it’s such a bonehead mistake - particularly making them twice in one collection - they really should’ve caught them.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Kid! Click Here

But all in all, even these minor points calm can’t obscure the fact this is a really phenomenal DVD situation with all the prime, sublime glory of Chaplin. You impartial wish they hadn’t been asleep at the switch with all these careless diminutive errors.

Ok..lets come by this out good up front…Dragonfly is not comparable to The Sixth Sense… with that said I found it to be a well crafted movie, that while not suspenseful is aloof respectable storytelling. It is more of a admire chronicle than a ghost record and the ending is one of the best in a original film. Kevin Costner is unfairly lambasted by critics, and while his choice in movies can be questioned, his acting skills remain appealing. He was believable in his share as the misfortune striken doctor. Ignore the famous bashing this movie has been getting, it is an savory, if somewhat under developed film.

Kevin Costnor finally in a movie that shows you that he can act, a reminder of the days when he did films like “Dances with Wolves” and “The Bodyguard”.

Dragonfly is like neither of the above, some people have compared it with “The Sixth Sense” and found it wanting, however that is a small unfair as this is not a movie about ghosts as such, rather it is about plan, life after death and the power of care for.

When his wife is killed in a freak accident in South America, Dr. Joe Darrow is left only with memories for her body was not recovered from the wreckage of the bus that claimed her life and that of her fellow Red Putrid workers.

But Joe finds that he is getting signs, he is seeing things in the house he once shared with his wife not to mention the children who have had come death experiences talk about his wife Emily and a rainbow, along with an strange cramped wavery injurious they withhold drawing when they approach help to the land of the living.

Joe thinks he is going enraged, his friends reflect he is going indignant but eventually Joe finds himself following what he soon realises are clues to a puzzle that he must unravel if he is ever to have peace of mind.

A visit to a remote village in South America reveals the truth about Emily’s death and the surprising legacy she left tedious.

An honorable cast with Kath Bates in a tough but soft centred cookie role as Dr Darrow’s friend Mrs Belmont and a short but sweet showing of the shining and often understated actress Linda Hunt as the nun Sister Madeline who makes Dr Darrow realise that there is more to life and death than heaven and earth can ever interpret.

There are no spectacular special effects in this film though there are some genuinely spooky moments which will manufacture you jump and though the ending is a itsy-bitsy bit syrupy for my taste it doesn’t create the film any less watchable.

Not a film I would have gone to the movies to discover but one I enjoyed watching on DVD.

TV fans frequently castigate FOX for the long string of premature cancellations of potentially (or actually) huge shows over the past fifteen years. They have built up a spacious deal of ill will with fans, with many people refusing to give FOX series tries because of a lack of confidence that they will stick with the shows. The hurt done to FOX by their mercurial trigger finger is difficult to calculate. Until recently, I was hate to behold any display on the network, so intense was my arouse at them. Thankfully, things seem to have changed somewhat. Fresh FOX head of programming Kevin Reilly — who built a reputation at NBC for his patience with critically acclaimed shows with primitive ratings, shows like FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS, 30 ROCK, and THE OFFICE — seems to have brought a similar patience with him. While shows like the estimable TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES have been cancelled, he can’t be accused of any comical cancellations that we saw with he predecessors.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Kyle XY: The Complete Third And Final Season! Click Here

But impartial as things have been improving at FOX, so things have been worsening at ABC. In fact, ABC seems to be certain to become the modern FOX. The most unpleasant cancellation was unquestionably PUSHING DAISIES, which was not only one of the most critically acclaimed shows on TV, but led all shows for most nominations at the 2008 Emmys. They cancelled at the same time the savory ELI STONE and later managed to assassinate a big fragment of its entire schedule. Now ABC Family has joined the party, cancelling network mainstay KYLE XY.

KYLE XY was not one of the best shows on TV. The writing was not as curious as it could have been and the overall account arc seemed to drift at times. Nonetheless, KYLE XY was for three years a series I watched with ongoing interest and enjoyment. I loved the Trager family and was increasingly enjoying the surprising admire triangle between Kyle, Amanda, and Jesse. I’ve also had an ongoing interest in shows featuring technologically altered people, such as Max in Murky ANGEL (a character Kyle resembles in some ways) or Jake in JAKE 2.0 or River Tam in FIREFLY.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Kyle XY: The Complete Third And Final Season! Click Here

I didn’t care for Jesse worthy in Season 2, but I not only came to like her character in the novel season, but actually enjoyed the complexity of the surprising cherish triangle that resulted as Kyle came to gape her romantically. I have no thought how that would have ended, but it would have been delectable to win out. Another romance on the prove seemed more likely to remain ended, as Joss’s girlfriend Andy moved with her mothers to Cleveland. Magda Apanowicz, who played Andy, got a role on the BSG prequel CAPRICA, a worthy higher profile series. But the whole seek information from of Amanda versus Jesse was left completely in the air.

I deem all the television networks should commit themselves to a pact with their audiences. Over the years dozens and dozens of shows have been cancelled in midstory. When most shows were episodic rather than serial in format, this didn’t matter. But virtually all shows worth watching — and all of the shows I peek, without exception — are serials. They drawl an ongoing record. PUSHING DAISIES will ruin (as of this date the final three episodes have not been broadcast) with a host of record arcs dangling. The same is legal of ELI STONE and KYLE XY. I deem television would improve, ratings would improve, and attitudes towards networks would improve if all the networks would bellow to allow all television series to have a good conclusion. This could be done either by allowing a series an extra 2 or 3 episodes to wrap up the record or a mini-series or made for TV movie (or even a direct-to-TV movie) to do the same. As it is, I have expansive madden towards FOX (though that has been dissipating somewhat the past couple of years) and a growing infuriate at ABC and ABC Family for scores of irritating cancellations. Let the series achieve what they started!!!! In addition to all the other advantages, it would increase DVD sales. One of the reasons why WONDERFALLS is so satisfying on DVD is that while it was cancelled by FOX after four episodes, 13 were filmed and appear on DVD, the final episode providing a very satisfying ending to the short series. Legal now when networks slay a series, they honest leave things in a mess.

But I also consider that executive producers need to close ending each season with a stout cliffhanger. If you know a reveal is friendly and that it has been renewed, a cliffhanger is not irresponsible. But I contemplate it is monotonous to write a cliffhanger for a reveal that is on the fence or in signficant misfortune of cancellation. I loved VERONICA MARS, but Lift Thomas knew the explain was at risk of ending. He should have ended the present with something that could have served as a series ender in case it was cancelled. There is an necessary precedent for what I am suggesting. Even though BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER was able to waste on its bear terms, Joss Whedon felt that there was always a possibility of cancellation. So each season of BUFFY (and most seasons of ANGEL) extinguish in a intention so that it could have stood as a series finale.

Still, when networks abolish shows after work on the new season has ended, then they ought to allow some sort of ending. This is certainly the case with KYLE XY. There was simply no opportunity for the writers to provide anything like a series ending. At the very least ABC Family should have ordered three more episodes with the opinion that they would be the last.

I hope that whoever does the hiring and firing replaces the programming people at ABC and ABC Family. It isn’t fair that the networks have a string of abominable shows; they are cancelling the best shows simply because the ratings are old-fashioned. If you have a critically acclaimed demonstrate, you always have the potential to perform an audience. But if you replace it with crap, you have neither well-known acclaim nor potential. As things stand, once LOST is finished, I may be finished with ABC as well, with the lone caveat that I’m anxious to scrutinize what they do with the pilot that they are developing for FABLES, based on the unbelievable comics by Bill Willingham. But apart from that, ABC has become the network from which I have the least expectations.

Iv heard that the 3rd season dvd also contains a mini wrap up of the Series! So Hopefully We will gain the answers we wanted on the dvd!

I saw this film in the theaters and was very disappointed that it was not a major hit; although I deem I know why. This is definitely a character and dialogue-driven historical drama. Not your run-of-the-mill mind-blowing blockbuster type of film! I maintain this film will play very nicely in DVD or video effect where it’s level-headed drama will play itself better.

I was VERY disappointed that Bruce Greenwood was not nominated for an academy award (there were rumors this may happen) because I have his performance was as first-rate if not better than the men that were nominated. His JFK was, in my humble plan, perfect. I found this film compelling, well written, and dramatic. I especially enjoyed the scenes where Kenny O’Donnell (K. Costner) went to church and went to seek his son play ball. Can you impartial imagine what you would feel if you understanding the ruin of the world may happen?

As I watched this movie, I conception it was a shame that the movie-going generation of today did not consume the time to glance it. To them, this is history of long ago; to many others, it is a lesson worth watching and remembering.

This is also, quite frankly, a extraordinary and absorbing share of cinema. Give it the chance it deserves.

I remember studying the Cuban Missile Crisis in college, in a class on group dynamics and groupthink. It is such a remarkably lively event, I was a bit panicked going into the film, as Hollywood often manages to suck the life out of inherently thrilling stories. Luckily, they regain this one good. While it is not historically true, I didn’t care, because the tale this film tells preserves the essence of the event, the tension in the White House as two superpowers danced at the edge of World War III, and the type of individual heroism and leadership it probably took to assign us from ourselves.

The legend is told from the perspective of Kenny O’Donnell (Kevin Costner), given an inflated role as the advisor to President Kennedy and confidant of both John and Bobby. Telling the chronicle from his perspective is a first-rate one, as it allows us to opinion John and Bobby as the larger than life heroes they were. Costner’s faux Bostonian accent is so lousy as to cause hysterical laughter from my friends and I as the film started, but thankfully Bruce Greenwood and Steven Culp outshine him with remarkably charismatic portrayals of John and Bobby. I wasn’t alive when Kennedy was president, but after watching Greenwood’s performance I can understand why so many scrutinize to Kennedy as our last mountainous president. Surrounded by military chiefs of staff rabid to go to war with the Russians, the Kennedy’s and O’Donnell come by the courage to follow their better judgment and inspire enough decent men around them to steer both sides to a quiet resolution. This is filmmaking about the clash of strong personalities in a group setting, like Twelve Enraged Men, or Glengarry Glen Ross, or Fail Respectable. I catch the subject bewitching.

A few other minor quibbles: occasionally the film switches to sunless and white, ostensibly to heighten the sense of historical accuracy, but it fair looked like we were watching a studio screener copy of the film to me. That could have been left out. Also, occasionally the director Roger Donaldson inserts scenes with O’Donnell hanging out with his family, brooding over their well-being, with head in hand and furrowed brow. They feel like attempts to conjure up some of the tension that well-liked American families felt during the event, but Costner no longer has the dramatic presence to pull them off, and I would have preferred Donaldson narrow his focus to conclude within the confines of the White House.

But those are minor quibbles. Dylan Baker plays Defense Secretary Robert McNamara wonderfully, and it’s improbable how noteworthy Culp and Baker resemble Bobby Kennedy and McNamara. I left the film wishing that presidential candidates like George Bush or Al Gore had half the charisma of Greenwood’s JFK. Ah, but isn’t that always the case with presidents in the movies? If you bag yourself fascinated by the Cuban Missile Crisis after watching the film, remove up the book from which some of the film’s events were pulled, “The Kennedy Tapes: Inside the White House During the Cuban Missile Crisis.” It provides a more historically factual and unprejudiced as compelling examination of the event.

A few years ago I started watching IDOJ for the first time since I was a kid on cable TV reruns. As an adult, I was able to see many things that simply went over my head as a child. This was actually quite an edgy demonstrate by mid 1960’s standards. Oh how I wished this present would be released on DVD, and lo and explore it my wish was granted!

(And, I bought the B&W version because I prize historical accuracy. I want to discover exactly what was shown on TV aid then, without the lousy TV’s we had befriend then.)

You’ve got a blond bombshell, who is involved to please in every procedure a man could imagine, living out of wedlock with an astronaut, who represented the most valiant all-american roll models we had wait on in the 1960’s. And somehow, for years, this display provided righteous well-organized TV fun for millions of viewers.

Part of why it worked I train is that Jeannie really wanted to marry Tony, and slowly but surely she broke down his decide not to marry her until toward the kill of the series, when they actually do accept married. The meta-narrative of the point to is that

Jeannie got her wish. (Oh yeah, and she slept in her bottle until she did!)

Is IDOJ really a “knockoff” of Bewitched? Yes and no. I rather believe of IDOJ as an improvement.

For example, the last scene in the pilot has Tony walking into his bedroom and closing the door, Jeannie turning to smoke and entering his bedroom under the door, Tony yelling “Knock it off!!” or something like that, and Jeannie coming serve out from under the door and reappearing with a wink to the camera. It’s all left to the imagination what happened in there and it’s laughable!

And that’s where IDOJ is very different from Bewitched. In IDOJ, the hottie with the supernatural powers gets to be sexual, whereas in Bewitched she does not.

In Bewitched, Samantha is the sane one with a world of lunacy around her in which she tries to gain order and survive the crisis of the week. She is usually uptight and in crisis mode and after a while I objective initiate to wonder what she ever saw in Darrin in the first state. Also, this formula gets repetitve. I doubt that I’ll ever order the Bewitched series for that very reason: it’s worthy the same record every week.

In IDOJ, Tony is the sane one in a world of lunatics, and Jeannie is often fragment of the chaos. Jeannie gets to be resplendent, sexual, luminous, mischevious, and most importantly, unpredictable. Will she be share of the jam or the solution this week? Or, will she try to be fraction of the solution and instead bring on more chaos? You really don’t know whats coming.

Also, I really luxuriate in the work that went into some of the props and stunts that often only provided a gag lasting a few seconds. In particular when Jeannie makes herself diminutive and has to cloak in items like coffee cups, pencil holders, and things like that. Those kind of scenes lift a lot of work to residence up. There’s some capable special effects work in this series beyond fair objects dissappearing and reappearing.

Oh, and one more thing. The DVDs are single sided!! I can actually peek at them and perceive what disc I’m holding! I can handle them without going into “brain surgeon” mode in order to avoid damaging them! They actually did the packaging correctly! WOW!

So, here you’ve got a properly packaged example of the best that 1960’s sitcoms had to offer, and for under $30. Halt wishing and launch buying!

Postscript: My one dissappointment with this DVD plot is the commentary on the pilot episode. I expected ample things since the commentators would be the main three actors in the cast, but it’s like they didn’t understand the purpose of a commentary or didn’t prepare. Don’t ask a lot of additional insights into the series. I tried to seek this with my wife and got so embarrassed for them that we turned it off and unprejudiced watched the pilot episode without the commentary.

Yay!
